Groupon had a mega flash sale of 18% off dining purchases and we gallantly bought enough to last us celebrating almost any other occasion for the rest of the year. #woesofashoppaholic

We decided to give Ah Yat a second chance despite its rough start for CNY - methinks, CNY screws any sense of taste for restaurants.

The ordering system was simple - 40 items for ordering and portions are listed sufficient for 1. The only down side the buffet prices for adult and children regardless of age cost the same. Tea, pickles and towel charges are mandatory so expect to top up.

I will not review each dish in depth since menu is likely to change but I have marked my favourites with an * and given a short writeup.

Marinated Pig Ear*

My recent obsession with fried pig's ears got me excited when I saw this on the menu - this version was quite tasty with the chewy ears.

Fish Meat with Lettuce*

This reminded me of my late Grandma's fried fish meat dish - one made with fish meat and flour. These chewy bites tasted like a chewier version of fish meat, nostalgic much!

Steamed BBQ Pork Bun

We all made a beeline for these when they arrived piping hot and pillowy soft. No yum cha experience is ever complete without these fluffy things.

Deep Fried Diced Fish*

It's strange how these tasted so good, coming from a dimsum buffet of all places.

Steamed Pork Ribs with Black Bean Sauce*

I got addicted to picking out the mushy yam pieces that were so tasty!

Steamed Turnip Cake*

I fell head over heels for this turnip cake filled with enough turnip that it might as well just be steamed turnip.

Panfried Turnip Cake*

A crispier version that got all our votes for delicious.

Crispy Beancurd Skin*

My best memory of this is in my packet of economic beehoon back in the teenage days, sure feels good having it all over again.

Baked Mini Egg Tart

DSC_0225

Steamed Bun with Custard and Salted Egg

I would not recommend this though, the fillings were too thick and not flowy enough.

Deep Fried Banana Ball with Red Bean Paste*

Banana and red bean is one mouthwatering combination that I cannot resist - what more deep fried! One word of caution is, enjoy it at the last else you will be full really quick.

Steamed Sponge Cake

At approximately $25 per head after all the miscellaneous charges, we found it a worthwhile buffet to consider.
