Steamboat has taken an all new meaning these days with more and more restaurants taking the literal sense of using steam to cook food in multi layer pots. Enter K-Tower which joins the craze of communal steam boat with a tiered set featuring bountiful layers of seafood and ending off with a hearty stew at the bottom.
The following is strong and seems like I am the ill informed with this latest craze!
I'd strongly recommend filling your dishes with their house made kimchi and pickles, plus that diggidy bomb of a belachan chilli paste!
Just the sight of this is enough to feel full.
9 Tier Seafood Tower ($298)
Definitely a feast for one's senses with layers of prawns, scallops, oysters, shellfish, a steamed whole fish even, sea cucumber, crabs, lobsters and even abalone at a supplement of $90. Fresh seafood is the way to go for K-Tower and is their main selling point.
I enjoyed the crunchy and gelatinous sea cucumber next to the sweet shell fish.
Army Stew Soup (+ $10)
I love my army stews and this is a fabulous base to dunk in all the sinful ingredients to the likes of ramen, luncheon meat, sausages, sea urchin balls and even enoki mushrooms and beancurd skins. Nothing tastes bad with army stew, seriously.
Build your own tower option is also available and that would work better for me since I like certain ingredients better than the rest.
Shake Shake Rice Box ($9.90)
Gimmicks aside, this was bimbimbap in a cute metal lunchbox which has appeared in most korean dramas as THE lunchbox that does not leak regardless of the shaking we did to it - hence shake shake. There is a reason why bimbimbap is stirred and not shaken this way but twas good fun.
Ginseng Chicken Soup ($17.90)
Another hearty number that would be rainy day antidotes.
Seafood Pancake ($14.90)
No korean meal is complete without seafood pancake and I like mine chewy and studded with enough seafood chunks.
K-Tower Fried Chicken Wings ($7.90)
These would rival KFC and give new meaning to fried chicken.
Trilogy Rice Cake with Honey ($5.90)
I was not expecting these rice cakes to be stuffed with fillings, which proved to be a hit. I actually liked rice cakes sweet than savoury.
If steamboat is not quite your thing, there are still other dishes that makes the trip down to K-tower worth while!
